What are the three stages of motor learning?

A
  1. Cognitive: When new motor skills are first being learned. Movements are often uncoordinated and jerky. Use “tell, show, do” in this stage.
  2. Associative: Basics mastered, ready for more specific feedback that will help to refine the motor skill.
  3. Autonomous: Motor skills performed effectively and naturally, trainer is monitoring rather than teaching.
