L11 - Foot Flashcards
**what is the blood supply to the dorsum of the foot
- anterior tibial artery via dorsalias pedis artery
- arcuate artery (gives off dorsal metatarsals to dorsal digitalis)
- deep plantar artery
**what is the nerve supply to the dorsum of foot
- superficial peroneal nerve
- deep peroneal nerve
- sural nerve
**describe the superficial peroneal nerve
- gives rise to medial and intermediate dorsal cutaneous nerves
- cutaneous
**describe the deep peroneal nerve
- lateral branch is motor to intrinsic muscles on dorsum
= extensor hallucis brevis
= extensor digitorum brevis - medial branch is cutaneous
**describe the sural nerve
- gives off lateral dorsal cutaneous nerve
**describe the peroneal retinacular complex
composed of superior and inferior peroneal
- tendons of both peroneus longus and brevis pass through both of these retinacula
**describe the extensor retinaculum:
- Y shaped complex with stem of Y on lateral side of ankle
- for tendons of extensor digitorum longus, extensor hallucis longus, and tibialis anterior
describe the flexor retinaculum
- for tendons of tibialis posterior, flexor digitorum longus, and flexor hallucis longus
**what muscles are in the dorsum of the foot? describe them
- extensor digitorum brevis
- extensor hallucis brevis: sometimes considered part of extensor digitorum brevis
- dorsal interossei: abductors; second toe is reference
**Sole of foot: describe the blood supply:
- posterior tibial artery: medial and lateral lantar arteries
- perforating arteries
++describe the nerve supply of the sole of the foot: cutaneous
- tibial nerve: medial calcaneal; medial plantar; lateral plantar// saphenous nerve// sural nerve
++describe the nerve supply of the sole of the foot: motor
- tibial nerve via lateral and medial plantar nerves
d++escribe the superficial layers of sole of foot
- skin
- plantar aponeurosis
++describe first muscle layer of sole of foot
- abductor hallucis
- flexor digitorum brevis
- abductor digiti minimi
++describe the tendons in first layer of sole of foot
- flexor digitorum longus tendon
- flexor hallucis longus tendon
