L03B Flashcards
What is the definition of gyroscopic precession?
The phenomenon in which the axis of a spinning object describes a cone in space when an external torque is applied to it.
What correction does fiber optic and laser gyros require?
Latitude correction.
Is there latitude control on a conventional gyro?
Yes
What is the Sagnac effect?
when in an enclosed loop, if two beams of laser light are transmitted into a fibre in opposite directions they should both exit the other end of the fibre at the same time.
What effects gyro tilt?
Maximum gyro tilt occurs if the mechanism is placed with its spin axis horizontal to the equator/
What is the rudder angle function on the auto pilot?
This setting dictates how much and how quick the rudder is applied to carry out course correction.
What is rate of turn?
t measures and displays the rate at which a ship is turning either to starboard or the port side.
what is synchronisation control?
Gyro time out.
