Design of the Common Standards

- Common State Standards have only been set for Language Arts and Mathematics
- This reflects students’ greater needs for these areas in the workforce and for success in school

Application to Students with Disabilities
A
- In accordance with IDEA, students with disabilities “must be challenged to excel within the general curriculum and be prepared for success in their post-school lives, including college and/or careers.”
- The Standards can be referenced when writing IEP goals, but goals must be individualized for each unique learner
