culture (definition)
A
a complex whole of knowledge, beliefs, arts, morals, laws, customs, institutions, and habits as acquired as a member of society and passed down from generation to generation

characteristics of culture
A
-it is learned, interrelated, adaptive, shared, dynamic, and a sign/symbol of a group of people

assimilation
A
- the cultural absorption or adaptation of a minority group into the majority cultural group (e.g. losing their language, traditions)
- can be spontaneous or forced
- when a person’s culture from the minority group is indistinguishable from others, it’s called Full Assimilation.

acculturation
A
- transmission of values and customs from one group to another
- two groups exchange cultural features but remain distinct
- person belonging to minority group begins to speak and act like those of the major culture
- may retain some original customs, traditions and beliefs while adapting voluntarily to the new culture
