KT4 - Establishing the Target State Flashcards
What does a Business Activity Model ( BAM) show ?
A business activity model shows the activities we would expect to be carried out in the business based on the stakeholders perspective. It is a expansion of the Transformation
What are the benefits of BAM
- Avoids blind re-implementation of the current system
- Attempts to provide an objective view of what the requirments should be
- promotes a more user-centred design
What are the 3 parts to building a BAM
Plan/Enable/Doing
Summarise how a BAM is built
Doing first which are the primary tasks derived from the transformation ( i.e selling cars)
This is followed by enabling which are tasks that ensure the resources and facilities are available
Then planning which identifies activities to cover deciding resources
Then monitoring and control activities
How do you build consensus
Some activities will be common to all models whilst others will have varying degrees of support from participants .
The analyst will try to arrive at as wide ranging consensus as possible.
Who decides if you do not get consensus
The Owner in CATWOE
What is the rationale for building a consensus model
It creates a model of what the system should look like and what it should be doing
Provides a basis for what opportunites exist for improvement
Can be further expanded to consider how the activities are or should be carried out
How can BAM improve the business system?
BAM shows the conceptual view of what should be in the desired system
Explain what TOM and POPIT is
TOM is the target operating model and is used to describe ‘how’ a business needs to be established to support the execution of strategy.
POPIT is People/Organisation/Process/Information/Technology
It is considered with TOM as it should cover the full range of elements across POPIT
