Why did Kerensky appoint Kornilov as commander-in-chief
Krensky thought he deserved this appointment because he had the toughness and great popularity among the heavyweight class middle and upper, this was vital for Krensky as he was trying to get them on his side, this could be because of two reasons they would be scared of the Marxist ideas getting into power as it would disadvantage them massively or the fact that the lower class and gained a huge amount of power and rights making them more dangerous to the higher classesWhy did Kerensky appoint Kornilov as commander-in-chief
Kornilov demands
He admitted he only take up this role his very serious conditions were met such as
-dissertation and acts of treason by soldiers in the rear areas of the battle zone was punishable by death
,-the army commander was accountable for his action not to the government but to the people,
-no interference by civilian politicians in military affairs, railway workers and other workers in the defence-related sector too by placed under army control,l and striker of all kinds to be stopped while the war effort was still going on

Krensky upped the stakes and was asking more of Kornilov this left even more responsibility in his hands leaving him wide open to be blamed and subject to alot of criticism

It left him damaged as he was under fire from the left and right, on the left he was subject to being willian participant in kornilovs counter revolution, this was thought due to his willingness to give him military control, then they were many campaigning for the restoration of discipline in russia that they thought kerensky was not providing

The right wing argument was kerensky had done the right thing by appointing kornilov in the first place and should of stood by him and implanted his progamme to help russia in both short and long term

The bolsheviks came out huge winners as they led to the successful defence of the petrograd, many who were able to infiltrate krymov’s army were Bolsheviks, this helped them advertise themselves in the limelight through propaganda as the saviours
What evidence is there for a huge surge in Bolshevik popularity
They were able to win thirty-three percent of the vote in the Petrograd and fifty one percent in moscow, more importantly they started to win the will of the soviets in major cities, they were dominant all over Russia and their power was only increasing over time

They were better led and organized then their rivals and less internal issues and divided allowing them to work together and waste less time.
