reasons for the start
The first machine gun regiment were told by the government they would not be heading off to the war however they went back on this claim this decision was almost a death sentence for half the regiment in the war. They were situated next to the bolshevik headquarters and were then able to switch be compromised and have their head turned against the russian government
how it esculated
People took to the streets in including 20,000 sailors from kronstadt, it turned darker than previous revolutions as it was just working class it was spurred on violent men who wanted to overthrow the government, furthermore, it didn’t help the defenses for the government was very poor as the defenses they had in place were the ones now attacking them leading them extremely vulnerable to getting overpowered
how did Lenin react
When they were on the verge of overthrowing Lenin then called to crowds to ask for the calm he felt, he was overwhelmed by how quickly things were moving and this way of overthrowing the government was not what he had expected in his mind, he also felt that if he gained power at this time they would not be able to maintain it.
how did the provisional government respond
Bring loyal soldiers back to the petrograd to and hit back and stop the protesters this then meant in 800 prominent Bolsheviks arrested, lenin himself fleeing and bolsheviks were ransacked and stop by the government for now. All this was bad for the government and the war but showed their weakness they could be stopped
