What is Agility?
The ability to control the movement of the whole body and change position quickly.
Tested by the Illinois Agility Test.
What is Balance?
Being able to keep the body stable while at rest or in motion.
What is Coordination?
The ability to use two or more body parts together.
What is Power?
The ability to undertake strength performances quickly.
Tested by Vertical Jump Test.
What is Reaction Time?
The time between the presentation of a stimulus and the onset of movement.
What is Speed?
The rate at which an individual can perform a movement or cover a set distance.
Tested by 30m Sprint Test.
What is Body Composition?
The percentage of body weight that is muscle, fat or bone.
What is Cardiovascular Fitness?
Your ability to exercise your whole body for long periods of time.
Tested by 12-minute Cooper Run/Swim (maximal) and the Harvard Step Test (sub-maximal).
What is Flexibility?
The range of motion at your joints or the ability of your joints to move freely.
Tested by the Sit and Reach Test.
What is Muscular Strength?
The amount of force can exert against a resistance.
Tested by Hand Grip Dynamometer.
What is Muscular Endurance?
The ability to use voluntary muscles many times without getting tired.
Tested by One-Minute Press Up/Sit up Test.
What is Continuous Training?
Should be for 20 minutes or longer at the same intensity, and must not involve any breaks during the session.
What is Fartlek Training?
Involves varying speed, intensity e.g. running up and down hills.
This is Swedish for ‘Speed Play’.
What is Interval Training?
Involves periods of high intensity activity (anaerobic) with breaks within the session to allow recovery.
What is Plyometric Training?
Exercises of high intensity, which muscles exert maximum force, in short intervals of time.
E.g. jumping and bounding.
What is Weight/Resistance Training?
Involves reps and sets, the weights are lifted a number of times (reps), followed by a break before starting another set.
What are Fitness Classes?
Includes Yoga, Pilates, Spinning, Aerobics and Body Pump.
