Knowledge Organiser Cardiovascular System Flashcards
What makes up the Cardiovascular System?
The CV System is made up of three elements: 1. The heart 2. The blood vessels (veins, arteries) 3. The blood.
What are the functions of the Cardiovascular System?
- Transport of Oxygen - Carries oxygen to working muscles and vital organs. 2. Transport of Carbon Dioxide - Transports carbon dioxide away from working muscles. 3. Transport of Nutrients - Nutrients are broken down from our food and transported in our blood. 4. Blood Clotting - Platelets are transported in the blood to help clot wounds to prevent blood loss. 5. Body Temperature Regulation - The body attempts to keep a constant temperature through vasoconstriction and vasodilation.
What is the role of the Pulmonary Artery?
The Pulmonary Artery carries deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle to the lungs.
What is the role of the Pulmonary Vein?
The Pulmonary Vein carries oxygenated blood from the lungs to the left atrium.
What is the function of the Aorta?
The Aorta carries oxygenated blood from the left ventricle to the body.
What is the purpose of the Vena Cava?
The Vena Cava brings deoxygenated blood from the body back to the right atrium.
What type of blood does the Right Atrium receive?
The Right Atrium receives deoxygenated blood from the Vena Cava.
What type of blood does the Left Atrium receive?
The Left Atrium receives oxygenated blood from the Pulmonary Vein.
What type of blood does the Right Ventricle pump?
The Right Ventricle pumps deoxygenated blood to the Pulmonary Artery.
What type of blood does the Left Ventricle pump?
The Left Ventricle pumps oxygenated blood to the Aorta.
