What is the purpose of a warm up?
A warm up prepares you physically and mentally to perform at your best and helps prevent injury.
What is Phase 1 of a warm up?
Pulse Raiser: To raise heart rate, e.g. jogging.
What is Phase 2 of a warm up?
Stretching: Static (stretches without movement) and Dynamic (stretches with movement).
What is Phase 3 of a warm up?
Drills related to the main activity, e.g. dribbling in basketball.
What are the benefits of warming up?
Increase flexibility, increase temperature of muscles to reduce injury, and increase oxygen to working muscles.
What is the purpose of a cool down?
A cool down returns the body to its resting levels.
What is Phase 1 of a cool down?
Light Exercise, e.g. light jogging.
What is Phase 2 of a cool down?
Stretching.
What are the benefits of cooling down?
Aids removal of lactic acid, carbon dioxide, and other waste products; brings heart rate and breathing slowly back down; improves flexibility.
What is exercise?
A form of physical activity to maintain or improve health and/or physical fitness.
What is fitness?
The ability to meet the demands of the environment.
What is health?
A state of complete emotional, physical, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
What is performance?
How well a task is completed.
