What is knitting weave?
Made of interlocking hoops using one or more yarn. They have fluidity and stretch and are made up of weft knits and warp knits.
What is a weft knit?
Weft-knitted fabric is made from continuous lengths of yarn, which is fed across the width of the fabric by a series of needles.
Can unravel easily and form a ladder.
Characteristics of weft knitted fabrics?
High elasticity.
Soft
Retains heat through the loops
Two identifiable sides to the fabric
Can loose shape easily
Unravels
What is weft knit used in?
T-shirts and sweaters
Hand and machine knits
Ribbed socks
Sportswear
What is a warp knitted fabric?
• Each loop of the fabric is fed by its own separate yarn- which is fed into the knitting zone parallel to the fabric selvedge.
• These loops interlock vertically, along the length of the fabric.
The yarn loops in a vertical direction. Cannot be done by hand.
What are the characteristics of a warp knitted fabric?
Fast production
Elastic
Can keep its shape
Hard to unravel
Machine is expensive.
