Knee Ligaments Flashcards
Medial Collateral Ligament
Travels from the medial condyle of femur to the proximal tibia and partially inserts on the meniscus.
Lateral Collateral Ligament
Travels from the lateral condyle of the femur to the head of the fibula
Becomes taut in extension and before the MCL causing external rotation of the tibia
Anterior Cruciate Ligament
Arises from the intercondyler fossa of the tibia and travels superiorly-laterally to the internal aspect of the lateral condyle of the femur.
Posterior Curciate Ligament
Arises from the posterior intercondylar fossa of the tibia then travels superiorly and medially to insert on the lateral surface of the medial condyle of the femur
Oblique Popliteal Ligament
Arises from the superior margin of the intercondylar fossa of the femur and attaches to the proximal posterior tibia
Forms part of the floor of the popliteal fossa
Resists hyperextension
Semimembranosus inserts into it
Arcuate Popliteal Ligament
Arises from the lateral posterior condyle of the femur and inserts into the head of the fibula
Crosses the popliteus tendon
Resists hyperextension
