KMT Flashcards
- matter made up of particles
- states that particles are always moving
what is kinetic energy?
the energy of movement
∴ the more kinetic energy, the faster it moves. the less kinetic energy, the slower it moves
what are intermolecular forces?
forces of attraction between molecules
high imfa: high boiling point, condensation point, melting point, freezing point, viscosity, surface tension, lower vapor pressure, kinetic energy, and temperature
describes what happens in the heating curve
from solid, the temperature increases the more heat you add and it melts turning into liquid. it hits the expected boiling point and is superheating then vaporization happens and it becomes gas.
describes what happens in the cooling curve
from gas, temperature decreases the more heat is lessed down. it goes through condensation, then turn into liquid then hits expected freezing point then supercools, then freezes, and finally turns into solid
