Value orientations. The theory that there are universal problems, and that one culture will favor one solution
What is Human Nature (legal system: should we punish or should we rehabilitate?)
- Basically good: rehabilitate
- Mixture of good and evil: be imprisoned, but still get help
Basically evil: be punished
What is the relationship between human and nature
- Humans dominate: we take over land, nature must take way for us. Birth control
Harmony exists between the two: incorporating nature within human actions
Nature dominates: we should make way for nature. If our house is flooded, we will just rebuild.
What are the relationships between humans
- Individual: me, my work, being accountable for myself
- Group oriented: take care of the extended family, team, tribe
Collateral: connection beyond the living and the ancestor. The day of the dead

Time orientation
- Future orientated: western culture, look towards the future. Long term planning
- Present oriented: live in the here and now. Not planning, lack of concern
Past oriented: look towards the past to influence the present and the future. Learn from history. In Europe, history contributes to the decision making
