lab gram stain demonstrate Gm-ve and Gm+ cocci
patient has history of what?
loss of consciousness, stroke, poor gag reflex, heavy alcohol consumption
Lab sputum demonstrates
currant jelly sputum
path
aspiration via
1. inhalation of gastric content(acid)- causing chemical burn of pulmonary parenchyma
2. aspiration of obstructing object such as food
3. aspiration of mouth flora provide gram stain with mixed anaerobes (poor oral hygiene)
Likely locations of aspirations when standing or sitting
posterobasal segment of right lower lobe
Likely locations of aspirations when supine
superior segment of right lower lobe (most common aspiration site overall)
Likely locations of aspirations when in right sided position
posterior segment of the right upper lobe
