Kinetics And Maxwell Distribution Flashcards
What goes on the x axis and y axis
Molecular energy- x
Number of molecules/particles- y
Why does it start at the origin
because no particles have zero energy
Draw and label the parts of the graph
A= No molecules have zero energy
B- most probable energy (emp)
C- mean energy (E average)
D= Activation energy (ea)
E= decline but never touches zero
Area under graph= total number of molecules
Ea represents the number of molecules with an energy higher than the activation
Change in temperature- increase
New temp: Emp increases, more particulars with an energy above the activation energy
Mean energy increases, fewer molecules;es with the most probable energy. Area under the graph stays the same.
Temp decrease
Most probable energy decreases, mean energy decreases, higher peak- more particles have emp, fewer molecules;es have energy above the activation energy.
