12
Q

How does increase temperature affect Maxwell Distribution curve

A

The peak will shift to the right and go lower
More particles will have energy greater than activation energy

13
Q

What does decreased temperature do to the Maxwell Distribution curve

A

The peak increases and shift to the left
Less energy greater than activation energy

14
Q

Why does temperature increase rate of reaction?

A

Increase temperature increases kinetic energy of particles so more frequent successful collisions happen per given time

15
Q

How does pressure and concentration affect rate ?

A

In increasing pressure will increase the rate of reaction as particles will be more close together so more frequent successful collisions which means a higher chance of a reaction. Same with concentration.

16
Q

How does catalyst increase rate of reaction?

A

Catalyst increase weight of reaction by providing an alternative pathway as lower activation energy
The dotted line is moved far to the left on the Maxwell Distribution curve

17
Q

Units for rate of reaction

A

Mol dm-3 s-1

18
Q

Three ways rate can be measured

A
  1. How long it takes for precipitate to form ( disappearing cross diagram ) shut
  2. Measure volume of gas produced.( gas syringe )
  3. Amount of mass lost
