Kinematics Flashcards
What is kinematics?
Describes motion
What is speed and the SI unit
speed = distance(m)/time(s) m/s
What is displacement?
Change in position (final - initial) - magnitude and direction
What is velocity?
velocity = displacement(m)/time(m) m/s & direction
if velocity is not constant how can it be calculated?
Draw a graph and draw a tangent at time (T) - the slope of tangent at T is equal to the velocity at point T
What is acceleration?
acceleration = change in velocity(m/s)/change in time (s) m/s^2 & direction
When is acceleration = 0?
When velocity is constant
Kinematic equations need what condition?
Constant accleration
Kinematic equation when given v, u, a & t?
v = u + at
Kinematic equation when given s, u, a & t?
s = ut + 1/2at^2
Kinematic equation when given v, u, a & s?
v^2 = u^2 + 2as
Kinematic equation when given v, u, s & t?
s = ((u+v)/2)t
What conditions are needed for freefall?
Motion under gravity only - object accelerates at (-9.8ms^2)
