Q

Why is the Medulla so salty?

A

One tube leading on to the loop of henley is permeable to water in which the water is reabsorbed back into the body. Therefore in the loop it is extremely salty due to the high levels of NaCl

Q

Where is ADH released from and what is its purpose?

A

ADH is released by the pituitary gland and it targets the collecting duct in the nephron.
When water levels are high, the pituitary gland releases ADH which produces aquaporins in the collecting ducts that allows water to be reabsorbed.

  • When water levers are high ADH is released and it makes the collecting duct impermeable so less what can be reabsorbed and more is released
