Plant Hormones Flashcards
1
Q
What are the 3 plant hormones?
A
- Auxin
- Gibberellins
- Ethene
2
Q
What tropisms do auxin provide?
A
- Phototropism
- Gravitropism
3
Q
What does Auxin do?
A
Auxin elongates the shoot cells however it inhibits the elongation in root cells.
Auxin moves to the shaded part of a plant, elongates the cells and allows the plant to move towards light to encourage phototropism.
Auxin in the root will accumulate in the lower side of the plant in response of the force of gravity.
4
Q
What’s another use of auxin?
A
Auxin can be used in rooting powders to increase the rate of growth.
5
Q
What is the purpose of Gibberellins?
A
- increase the size of the plant, to produce more vegetation
- produces seedless fruits
- also controls seed germination
6
Q
What is the purpose of ethene?
A
-produced by bananas and it promotes ripening
