Q

Manifestations of Diabetes insipidus

A
  • Polyuria: Large amounts of diluted urine
  • Polydipsia: drinking alot of water

If sense of thirst is depressed in any way (loss of conciousness), results in fatal dehydration

Q

Manifestations of SIADH

A
  • Excess water retention
  • Hyponatremia (sodium deficiency)
  • Edema (caused by water shifting to interstitial space as a result of decreased plasma osmolarity

Q

Explain how SIADH causes hyponatremia

A
  1. Excess water retention
  2. Hypervolemia
  3. Reduced Renin secretion
  4. Inhibition of RAAS system & reduced Angiotensin II secretion
  5. Decrease Aldosterone secretion
  6. Decrease Sodium reabsorption
