- Cells in the body produce waste products or change up the acidity or the osmolality of the blood.

- Take returned/reabsorbed nutrients back into the blood

- Waste products, important nutrients (ions, amino acids, glucose) end up in filtrate that passes through kidney

• Takes blood and puts put urine
  urine is present in the renal calyx (renal pelvis is where renal calyses meet)
• Ureters send urine away from the kidney into bladder

How do kidneys maintain homeostasis?

Answer 5

• Maintain pH of blood by regulating the amount of hydrogen ions that are available
• Blood pressure- kidneys make sure the right amount of sodium and chloride ions are excreted to prevent high blood pressure
• Osmolality- concentration of dissolved particles of chemicals and minerals
• Excretion of waste- (urea)
