Glomerular filtration in the nephron Flashcards
1
Q
What is the glomerulus?
A
- Glomerulus receives branches that come from the renal artery
- Afferent arteriole- going towards
- Efferent arteriole- going away
- Main site of filtration- takes blood and turn it into filtrate
- Leaks fluid out
2
Q
Where does filtrate go after filtered out of glomerulus?
A
- Fluids captured into Bowman’s capsule
- collect fluid/filtrate that comes form glomerulus
- capsule contains filtrate `
3
Q
What do vessels in the glomerulus include?
A
- Have red blood cells, white blood cells, big proteins (does not leak), sodium ions, amino acids. glucose
- Big proteins, blood cells, platelets, white blood cells cannot leak out due to semi-permeable membrane between endothelial cells and the tubule- Basement membane
4
Q
How does filtrate leak out?
A
- Vessels are fenestrated (with holes) which also small things like sodium, amino acids and glucose to leak through.
