Means “picture element”; an illuminated dot - many pixels together form a display
Resolution
The number of pixels in a display
DPI (Dots Per Inch)
Resolution is measured in dots per inch (DPI)
CAD (Computer Aided Design)
Software that allows a user to design and create an image of an object
CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing)
A computer controls machinery used to manufacture an object
CNC (Computer Numeric Control)
CAM uses CNC to controls the machinery to achieve precision manufacturing
DAC (Digital to Analogue Convertor)
A device that converts digital signals to analogue signals
Flat panel display
Provides high resolution, bright, flicker-free displays
LCD (Liquid Crystal Display)
Provides a low energy display made up of separate red, green and blue coloured crystals arranged together in tiny blocks
LED (Light Emitting Diode) display
A more advanced version of a LCD display - pixels are backlit with LEDs
LCD projector
Light is passed through 3 separate glass panels (red, green and blue) - for each pixel appropriate colours are blocked or open
