Regeneration
Aimed at revitalising areas experiencing decline, focusing on improving physical, economic, and social conditions to make them more attractive and promote economic development
Rebranding
The process of changing a place’s image and identity to attract people, investors, and tourists, often involving physical and symbolic transformations to create a more positive perception
Post-Production countryside
Rural areas that no longer make most of their income from food production and other primary employment e.g. fishing, forestry
Destination tourism
The decision to visit an area for a short period based on a single attraction, then other nearby places receive visitors as a result of this
Enterprise zones
Designated areas across England which provide tax breaks and government support in order to expand businesses and boost economic growth
Diversification
Broadening the local economy to move away from one source of income
E.g. moving away from dependence on tourism
Regional aid
A form of state aid fund that can be given to areas to encourage investment and job creation in economically disadvantaged areas
Periphery
Remote areas receiving little investment due to isolation, leading to social and economic issues
Marginalised
Groups feeling pushed out to the edge of society by a dominant culture
Social Polarisation
Segregation of groups that emerges from income inequality, resulting in clusters of high income professionals and low skilled, low income workers
Sink estate
Social housing estate with lower income, high crime, and other deprivation factors

Remote, less accessible areas far from major cities experiencing depopulation

Rural village separate from city where people live to travel into the city for work

Forces that draw people together/ to something

Forces people apart/ away from a place
Ethnic Enclaves
One specific ethnicity contributes a large proportion of an areas population
Can lead to development of specific religious buildings, ethnic food shops etc..

Improvements of an area driven by needs/ wants of consumers
