Positives of regeneration

Negatives of regeneration
-Gentrification broke up traditional communities
-Those with ill health etc.. all in same area creating deprivation (Tower Hamlets)
-Extreme cost of living
Why was it regenerated?
-Experiencing deprivation after port was no longer in use due to containerisation meaning ships were too large for London Docklands
How have TNCs influenced Canary Wharf’s characteristics?
The regeneration of the docklands into a business district attracted TNC’s and investment
Mainly in banking e.g. HSBC located HQ in Canary Wharf
Olympia & York invested in high rises, attracting TNCs to locate there
This led to further TNC investment as area was attractive, and is now multi-purpose area with residential + leisure areas
