Define Equality
Giving everyone the same ACCESS to rights and opportunities by personalising care.
Define a need
What a service user requires to make them equal to others
Define a disability aid
Equipment used for providing help to those with disabilities
Define Holism ( Holistic) meaning
Whole person (not just one aspect)
Name the aspects of PIES
Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, Social
Define Fine motor skills
fine and detailed movements (smaller movements such as fingers)
Define gross motor skills
bigger movements such as those with the whole limb involved (e.g throwing)
Define Diversity
A range of abilities, characteristics and differences within a group of individuals
Define protected Characteristics
Differences in individuals that are protected and promoted through diversity in the equality act
Define prejudice
Pre judging someone based on their characteristics
Define stereotyping
Labelling groups with a shared characteristic as all being the same

Learning attitudes and beliefs based off of social experiences

Learning from people in your household

Learning from people outside of your household (e.g friends, religion, media) (May lead to bias)

Learning from different generations (may be embedded through government, school systems etc)

Obvious discrimination towards someone/ being blatantly prejudice ( verbally or physically etc)

Unintentional and possibly accidental discrimination

When someone in a company may not be punished for discriminatory actions as the whole company is corrupt and not following correct practice.
What are the five rights

What is meant by the Paramountcy Principle
If the parent’s wishes aren’t in the child’s best interests, then they should be overridden as the welfare of the child should be priority
What is an advocate
Someone who speaks on behalf of someone who is vulnerable and needs help protecting their rights
What is reasonable force or restraint
Using reasonable force to restrain someone in order to protect themselves and others
What does it mean to seek redress
Following a complaints procedure to seek justice for the wronged service user
