Melismatic
The singing of one syllable of text while moving between several different notes.
Syllabic
The singing of lyrics with primarily one syllable of text per note
Ground bass
A constantly repeating bass pattern above which a melody unfolds

Suspension
When a note from one chord is held over to/repeated in a chord to which it does not belong
Conjunct
A melody that moves mainly by step between adjacent notes.

Monophonic texture

Multiple notes are played but are based around only one sound
Melody dominated homophony texture
Single voice/melody is the focus, other voices or instruments provide supporting parts
Imitation
Melody in one part is copied a few notes later in a different part while the melody in the first part continues
