An experience where an individual is placing themselves at risk and where the outcome is uncertain

The difficulty of the task is equal to the competence of the individual creating optimal arousal, resulting in max performance and flow
Explain misadventure
State of mind where the immediate reactions are negative rathe than positive
The challenge becomes to difficult for the individual
Explain devastation and disaster
The degree of difficulty is far greater than that of the individuals competence
An extension of misadventure where death / serious harm may result
Define fear, give a potential link to behaviour

Fear : an unpleasant emotion making someone scared
May never want to visit that environment again, may defer others from visiting

Curiosity: uncertainty of an outdoor experience or adventure experience

This can lead to doubt, stress, loss of confidence, increase level of risk/ chance of injury

Awe: a feeling of admiration
A person in awe may want to revisit the environment, spend more time outdoors, visit similar places

Observing as well as reflecting and thinking about an outdoor environment

The media can often focus on the negative and thus dramatise situations and give unrealistic expectations
