Mother Nature
A term that refers to the earths biosphere, that is all of the living things on earth and the processes and systems that are a part of, or related to, these living things.
Called mother because of the caring quality
Urban / built environment
An environment designed to replicate something that is natural. An attempt to recreate conditions found in natural environments
Eg artificial surfing reef
Indoor rock climbing centres
Indoor snow skiing centres
Wilderness
An environment that is big, remote, and untouched or relatively untouched by humans
Risk
The potential to loose something you value versus the possibility of gaining something you value
Absolute risk
Uppermost limit of risk
Real risk
The amount of risk that actually exists at a given moment
Perceived risk
Individuals subjective assessment of the real risk present at any time
Minimal impact
The aim to have as little environmental impact, from when the trip begins to when you have arrived home to preserve and protect the environment
Experiential learning
“To learn by doing”
Obtaining knowledge and understanding of the outdoors by participating in the environment
These experiences allow us to form relationships with the outdoors and help us develop a sense of place
Biosphere
The place on earths surface where life dwells

A community of independent species and their environment
