Magna Carta
created by the British parliament because of unfair laws made by King john, it sets out the principles of due process and equality before the law such as the right to a trial by jury of one’s peers and not being imprisoned without the prospect of fair trial.
Racial discrimination Act 1975
Recognised direct racism and indirect, it prohibits discrimination on the basis of: access to places and facilities (s11); land, housing and other accommodation (s12); provision of goods and services (s13); trade union membership (s14), employment (s15); advertisement (s16)
Sex discrimination act 1984
prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, marital or relationship status, key rights initiated are; right to equity and non discrimination; right to work, choose employment and just and favourable conditions; right to education
disability discrimination act 1992
ensures freedom from discrimination for people suffering from a disability, prohibiting discrimination in employment, education, clubs etc.
