Q

describe the assumption that a brain is an information processing organ

A
  • cognitive approach assumes info is processed in the brain
  • considered to be linear
  • the info processing approach characterises thinking all the environment providing input of data which is then transformed by our senses. info can be stored, retrieved and transformed using mental programmes (process) with the results being response (output)

Q

describe the assumption that the brain works like a computer

A

we are information processors - both receive, interpret and respond to information
eg we input info into a computer using a keyboard, the info is processed (programmes/software) and can be stored on the hard drive
computers output in the form of sound/print but humans output in the form of language or written work
also using body language, emotions and other signals so we are more complex
human mind is thought to have a limited capacity processor which can only deal with a restricted amount or type of info at any one time
