Key Area 1: Cell Structure Flashcards
Cytoplasm
Fluid that fills the cell. Where the chemical reactions take place in the cell
Mitochondria/Mitochondrion
Where aerobic respiration takes place and ATP is produced in the cell.
Cell membrane
Controls what enters and exits the cell. Is made up of phospholipids and proteins.
Nucleus
Where DNA is stored in the cell, controls everything that happens in the cell.
Ribosome
Where amino acids are connected together to make proteins. Proteins have many different functions in the body.
Sap Vacuole
Contains water and sugars. It helps the cell wall to keep it’s shape.
Plasmids
Bacterial cells don’t have a nucleus so genes are stored in plasmids instead. These genes help the cell to function.
Animal cell
Cell membrane, Cytoplasm, Mitochondrion, Ribosomes, Nucleus
Plant cell
Cell wall, Cell membrane, Cytoplasm, Sap vacuole, Mitochondrion, Chloroplast, Ribosomes, Nucleus
Fungal Cell
Cell wall, Cell membrane, nucleus, ribosome, cytoplasm, mitochondrion, vacuole
Bacteria cell
Cell wall, cell membrane, chromosome, ribosome, cytoplasm, plasmid
Chloroplast
Small green structures that our found in green plants. They are were photosynthesis takes place.
Cell wall
Surrounds the cell membrane, it helps the cell to keep it’s shape.
Cellulose
Makes up a plant cells, cell wall.
Cells are the
basic unit of life
