What happened on 4th May 1970?

A

Ohio national guardsmen shot 4 students dead in a protest at Kent University against Vietnam war. 2 of them weren’t even protesting, just getting to class

How did students protest on 1st May 1970?

A

Students buried a copy of US constitution as a protest. 500 took part and it got out of control as there was fighting between pro-war and anti-war happened that evening and several demonstrations the next day

A

Officer Training Corps building on campus was burned down, the mayor declared emergency and 900 national guards arrived with rifles and tear gas

A

Public horrified at the white, middle-class student who was shot
Two black students were shot at Jackson state university but this created little publicity
Common to see less reaction when involving black people
