Kennen:
Talking about knowing a person, place, object, or having familiarity with something or someone. Often followed by a noun or a pronoun.
I know this man.
Ich kenne diesen Mann.
Do you know a good German teacher?
Kennst du einen guten Deutschlehrer?
Do you know Samantha?
Kennst du Samantha?
I know a good Indian restaurant in Berlin.
Ich kenne ein gutes indisches Restaurant in Berlin.
How well do you know Berlin? (Berlin)
Wie gut Kennen Sie Berlin?
I knew him.
Ich kannte ihn (Präteritum).
Ich habe ihn gekannt (Perfekt).
Wissen:
The easy way to remember how to use wissen is that it is usually followed by a subordinate clause with a conjunction, so it looks something like: I know that…/I don’t know that…/I don’t know if…/I know where…/Do you know that…?
Wissen is also used in a short phrase “I know/I don’t know” and with the words das, viel, etwas, nichts, alles, genug.
