Keep Forgetting Flashcards
Conclusion of Andrade
That doodling helps concentration on a primary task.
Possible explanations for why doodling gorup performed better than control group;
-doodling enhances concentration (although day dreaming measures need to be accounted for eg using self report)
-enhances memory(bc encourages deeper processing)
Aim of Andrade
To invetsgte whether doodling aids concentration on a boring task and later recall of auditory information
Explain how the eyes test was made in baron and cohen
3 raters
Created foils and target words for each item.
8 judges.
For the target word, 5/8 had to agree.
For the foil, no more than 2 had to agree
Give the second aim in baron cohen
To test individuals with HFA/AS with the revised eye test to see if same deficits were still seen as the original one
In Andrade , how many people suspected a surprise memory test
Experimental group, 3 people
Control gorup, 4 people
How was the dependant variable opertanionalied in Andrade
Correct names minus false alarms (incorrect names)
Flase alarms were either;
-lures, so people mentioned but not going t the party
-wrong names(so people not in the message)
Aims of pozzulo
-investigate the role of social and cognitive factors in false identification in target absent line ups
-inevitable whether children or adults make more false positive dineiftctaions when the nature of the target face is changed and when the type of lineup is changed (absent vs present)
How long were the video clips in pozzulo
6 secon long
(2 to 3 second closeups)
Explain how the cartoons and unfamiliar faces were chosen in pozzulo
Cartoons, 3 raters, who chose from 10 different cartoons as foils.
Unfamiliar faces, 3 raters, who chose from set of 90 male and 90 female faces
State the results for Andrade
In experimental group, average of 36.6 shapes shaded, (3-110 range)
-but in control gorup no shapes were shaded
For monitored info
Experimental group, 7.8 (1 flase alarm)
Control gorup, 7.1(5 false alarms)
For incidental info
Experimental group, 7.5
Control gorup, 5.8
Average flase alarm of 0.3 for both doodlers and control group, for both monitored and incidental information
Give the first two conclusions of Baron cohen
-indidiuvls with hfa/as have an impaired cognition at identifying the emotions of others and so therefore lack a theory of mind
-the revised eye test is a much mor efficient measure of measuring social intelligence compared to the original test
Outline the results of pozzulo
In both target absent and target present lineups, both children and adults were better at identifying cartoon faces compared to human faces.
There was a lower rate of correct response for cartoon characters for children in target absent lineups compared to target present line ups
Adults were better at identifying unfamiliar human faces compared to children in target present line ups.
Adult, 0.66, children, 0.23
Outline the conclusion of pozzulo
Fact that children bake to w 100% accuracy able to identity cartoons in target present line up but not in target absnet,
Shows that cognitive factors not responsible.
Instead social factors such as demand characteristics/authority played a much more significant role in children’s flase positive responses
