KED - Background
A
It is used to remove patients with suspected spinal injuries from vehicles and other spaces. It stops the spine from moving laterally.

A
When there is concern with a patient’s spine during extrication.
There is not enough personnel or space to extricate the patient without using the KED.

A
Gain consent. Apply c-collar. Place KED behind patient. Apply body strapr Apply leg straps. Place padding behind head if required. Apply forehead and chin straps. Perform checks. Document application

KED - Complications
A
It can take time to apply the KED.
The KED may restrict the patient breathing.
It may cause increased pain in torso, pelvis or legs.
