What is kawasaki’s disease?
A
A type of systemic vasculitis most commonly seen in children

A
- 6 months to 4 years

What is the criteria for diagnosis? (w/o naming symptoms)
A
4/5 major finding on a background of fever for 5 days

6 major symptoms of Kawasaki’s
A
- Fever > 5 days
- Eoedema
- Erythematous rash
- Lymphadenopathy - cervical lymphnodes
- Mucous membrane involvement - bright red cracked lips
- Conjunctivities

What is characteristic about the fever?
A
Resistant to antipyretics

Describe the rash in kawasaki - 2
A
- Polymorphic and diffuse rash over large portions
2. Red palms and soles of feet which peels

Treatment - 2
A
- First 10 days - IV immunoglobulins
2. High dose asprin - to reduce platelet count and inflammation

Investigations for Kawasaki (3)
A
- Inflammatory markers - high CRP and ESR
- Platelets rise
- Echo - shows narrowing of blood vessels

Coronary artery aneurysms
