Bleeding Kansas earned its nickname from all the attacks that were caused for the Kansa-Nebraska act. The Jayhawkers and the Bushwhackers would start attacks on each other to influence their voting ways.
What were the “Bogus Elections?”
The bogus elections were a cause of all the Border ruffians coming into to town to vote for slavery.
Who was David Rice Atchison? What event should you connect with this man?
David Rice Atchison was a Missourian senator. He should be connected to the Bogus elections because he actually encouraged the illegal voting process where people who lived in the border states would come to vote for slavery.
Who were the Border Ruffians?
The Border Ruffians were the people who lived in the states surrounding Kansas they would come into Kansas and vote for slavery illegally.
What was the Wakarusa War?
The Wakarusa War was one of the first eruptions of violence that took place by the Wakarusa river. After blockades were put on the city by Samuel Jones preparing for an attack that did not come a treaty was made and the missourians signed.

John Brown was a well known abolitionist leader. He should be connected with the Pottawatomie Massacre. The raid on Harper’s ferry.
What was the Pottawatomie Creek Massacre?
The Pottawatomie Creek Massacre was an event where an abolitionist ganged up with his sons near the the Pottawatomie creek to attack the proslavery men. As a result 5 men killed.
Who were the Jayhawkers and what did they do?
The Jayhawkers were a group of kansan people who were against slavery. They were known for raiding areas in Missouri.
Who were the Bushwhackers and what did they do?
The Bushwhackers was a group of MIssourians who were for slavery. They were known for ambush style attacks that would harm their enemy. They would come into Kansas for the attacks.

James Lane was a kansas leader. They were key in negotiating and ending the siege.
