An abolitionist was someone who was against slavery and wanted to end it
What was theMissouri Compromise, and what was it’s main goal?
The Missouri compromise was where Missouri and maine were added to the union. 22 states made up the union and half of the states prohibited slavery whereas the other half permitted slavery. It’s main goal was to maintain the balance of power as new states were added to the country.
What was included in the compromise of 1850?
Four parts were included in the compromise of 1850. The first part was California was admitted into the union as a free states. The second was slave trade was banned in Washington DC. Also a new fugitive slave law was added the act stated all citizens must assist in returning runaway slaves it also denied slaves to the right of a jury trial. Finally it was determined that voting would be used as a way to decide on which states would be free states and which ones would not.

Stephen Douglas was the writer of the kansas-Nebraska act. The act entailed that all the people who lived in this territory would vote to figure out if it was a free state or not. the result was a period of time most commonly called Bleeding Kansas because all the anti and pro slavery groups would gather together and fight for their state’s future.

Popular sovereignty means people gathering together to vote on a cause.
Who wrote Uncle Tom’s Cabin? How did this novel further divide the North and South?
Harriet Beecher Stowe was the author of this book. The novel further divided the North and the South because in the book she wrote about slavery and how it was evil this made the Northerners see slavery in a new and different way and they saw the moral issue of it all making them push reform even more. This made Southerners angry and they just criticized the Northerners creating the bigger gap between the two sections.
