A

where there is a jury in a criminal case, they assume part of the function that the judge would, if there was no jury. Ie. the judge decides on points of law, and the jury on the facts

2) Jury Equity - make decisions based on fairness (Pontins Case)
3) Open system of justice
4) Secrecy of the jury room prevents pressure to make a certain decision
