What is an advantage of using a stove in the wild versus a campfire?

A

The stove can cook, but doesn’t require scorching the earth. It also doesnt require you to find firewood.

What is Kerosene?

A

Kerosene is liquid fuel. Also Kerosene isn’t popular any more in the US. It would be seen as weird to suggest it as an option. It’s cheap and safer to store, but it smells, is smoky, and needs a wick for priming.

What is white gas/coleman fuel?

A

A liquid petroleum usually sold in one gallon cans. VERY popular for campers’ lanterns and stoves. It’s also most combustible as well, and as such requires safe storage. (Never store it inside) It easily found everywhere.

What is Butane?

A

A pressurized gas that becomes a liquid when used. Often found in small cigarette lighter, torches and aerosol cans. They are long lasting in storage, and the gas is not as toxic to breathe in.

A

Softwoods burn rapidly with a lot of flames. Hardwoods burn slowly and make a long lasting bed of coals.

Explain the Tepee Fire Lay

A

The Tepee fire lay Lay a big loose handful of tinder in the middle of the fire ring. Set up the pieces of kindling standing up, to touch at the top like a tepee OVER that pile of tinder. Leave an opening in the tepee on the side against which the wind is blowing, to let air in. Arrange fuel around the kindling. In the same tepee formation. Light a match in the door of the tepee.
