what is the Talmud
is the oral Torah and is the interpretive text of laws, customs and ethics in the TaNaK, it was made after the TaNaK
what is the purpose of the Talmud
explains how to fulfil commandments as sometime the how is not found in the torah, it fills the gaps in narratives and offers keys to interpretation within the modern context with principals from the TaNaK
what are the two sections of the talmud
the Mishnah: laws based on six area including Land of Israel
the Gemara: a transcript of law cases from Mishnah that contextualise the issues and rules

what is the difference of the talmud and TaNaK
the TaNaK is written and includes the Torah, Nevi’im, Ketuvim where as the Talmud is oral and includes Mishnah, gemara
