What is the covenant?

A

Covenant means contract. In Genisis 17 God made a covenant with Abraham that he would protext the people and give them their land if the people would reamin faithful to God. Primary sogn of covenant between God and Jews is circumcision, a practice borrowed from the ancient near east. The covenant binds people to God and to each other. The creator mand a covenant to maintain his creation.

The Seder is an important part of passover. Seder is a meal that take place on the first night. People retell story of exodus.

A

A

Made up of the first 5 books of the Tanakh: Genisis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Dueteronomy. The content is the history of Judaism. There are prophet figures where God reveals himself to the world. Most familiar to Jews what they chant in the synagogue. 613 commandments that are obligations mandated by God (dietary laws, morals, governance, etc.) Word of God given to Moses at Mount Sinai and the text is taken literally.

A

Geneis means origins. It is the biblical roots of Judaism and the story of creation. Genisis 1: The first creation account presents God as intellegent, active, and masculine power who overcomes primeval chaos to create order, God imposes seperations of light/dark and land/water and completes his work in stages over 6 days and rests on the 7th day. Genesis 2: The second creation account focus on Adam and Eve and their dillemma in the garden of Eden. Adam is to live in tge Garden as a caretaker. Adam created out of dust and God’s breath and eve out of Adam’s rib. Forbids them to eat from two trees that He needs for nourishment. Eve eats from one of the trees and encourages adam to and God expels them from the Garden.
