Joints and Ligaments of the Back Flashcards
Anterior Longitudinal Ligament
Run anterior from cervical to sacrum
Goes from transverse process to transverse process
Attaches nucleus to the vertebrae
Posterior Longitudinal Ligament
Runs between peducles on posterior side
Very small, often get bulges within nucleus here
Supraspinous ligament
On tip of spine to posterior part of skull
Interspinous ligament
Superior border of spine to the inferior border of the spine above it
additive effect to help with stability
Ligamentum flava
Lamina to lamina in segmental regions
Segmental ligaments
Has more elastin that other ligaments
can stretch and return more easily
Intertransverse
Transverse process to transverse process (between superior and inferior vertebras)
Intervertebral disc 2 components
Internucleus pulposus (dense liquid, membrane bound) Annulus fibers- around disk in many layers
Nucleus of vertebral disc (shrinkage)
Lack of water –> height shrinkage
At night- water reabsorbed into nucleus of disk
In morning- full amount of water
as you age- less water is taken up
Preloading
Helps secure vertebral column
Helps prevent damage during a fall
Splenius muscles
Superior to errector spinane
Capitis- goes to head, goes to inferior nucchal line
Cervices- Attaches in cervical region
Innervation- DPRs
