Joints Flashcards
Joints
The rigid elements of the skeleton meet at sites
How are joints classified?
They can be classified either by function or structure.
What are the types of joints according to the functional classification?
Synarthroses, amphiarthroses, diathroses
What are the types of joints according to the structural classification?
Fibrous, cartilaginous, or synovial joints
Synarthroses, amphiarthroses, diathroses are associated to what?
Axial skeleton
Synovial joints
are the most movable joints of the body, and all are diarthroses.
Synovial membranes
composed of loose connective tissue. Its function is to make synovial fluids.
Brusae
is a flattened fibrous sac lined by a synovial membrane
Nonaxial (plane joint)
adjoining bones do not move around a specific axis
uniaxial (Hinge joint)
movement occurs around a single axis
biaxial (Condylar and Saddle Joint )
movement can occur around two axes; thus the joint enables motion along both the frontal and sagittal planes.
multiaxial (Ball and socket joint)
Movement can occur around all three body planes: frontal, sagittal, and transverse.
