Joints Flashcards
Labrum
Syndesmosis
Joint held together by a ligament fibrous tissue longer than sutures
Gomphosis
Peg in socket fibrous joint. Like a nail or bolt.
Synchondroses
Bones unite by hyaline cartilage
Symphases
Bones united by fibrocartilage
Articular Capsule
Enclosed joint cavity and contains synovial membrane and fibrous layer. Covers all internal joint surfaces minus hyaline
Articular cartilage
Prevents bone from crushing itself. Hyaline
Thickened parts of fibrous membrane
Capsular ligaments
Distinct thick fibrous capsules outside capsule
Extra capsular ligaments
Band like ligaments deep to capsule
Intra capsular ligaments
Nerves and blood vessel supply
nerve fibers are within synovial joints that also contain blood vessels that supply membrane. (Helps it produce more fluid)
Tendon Sheath
Elongated bursa that wraps around tendon that withstands lots of friction
Synoarthrosis
Immovable joints
Diarthrosis
Very movable
Amphiarthrosis
Slightly movable
