Joints
Any area where two bones come together.
Ligamentous joints
With only ligament between them, such as where the splint bones meet the cannon bone.
Cartilaginous joints
Joints between the vertebrae of the spinal column.
Synovial joints
Joints that are surrounded by a capsular ligament this is filled with synovial fluid. The bones of these joints have a covering of articular cartilage where they meet to create a slick surface as well as absorb shock.
Hinge joint (fetlock joint)
First in the category of synovial joints. Known anatomically as a ginglymus joint.
Ball-and-socket joint (shoulder and hip)
Second in the category of synovial joints. Known anatomically as an enarthrodial joint.
Plane joint (carpometacarpal joint)
Third in the category of synovial joints. Anatomically called an arthrodial joint.
