JOINT Range of Motion Flashcards
What is a Synovial Joint?
A cavity between articulating bones that allows movement
It has a smooth slippery surface that reduces friction & absorbs shock
What are the qualities of the Synovial Joint?
The ends of bones are covered by Articular Cartilage
The synovial joint has a Joint Cavity
- Inside this cavity is Synovial Fluid
- The Synovial Fluid keeps the joint lubricated
What are the benefits of ROM/Passive ROM?
It promotes joint integrity & health
- Keeps muscle elastic
- Increases joint circulation
- Reduces pain
- Promotes function
When do we NOT do ROM exercises?
If disrupts healing process
If will cause tissue harm
If increases pain
What is ROM?
The amount of movement that occurs at a joint
What is ‘Auto-assisted ROM”?
Client uses strong arm/leg to assist
What is the main benefits of Passive ROM?
MAINTAINS JOINT INTEGRITY
Assists healing
Prevents joint stiffness
Demonstrates proper motion for exercise
Prepares client for AROM
Maintains ROM that is limited in AROM by pain
